Alexis Bilindabagabo is the Chairman of the East Africa Revival Network. His gifts and experience make him an ideal leader for this kind of enterprise.
Bishop Alexis understands the reality of a persecuted people. He wes born in 1955 in southern Rwanda. A few years later his country violent and systematic persecution arose against his tribe. Tens of thousands were killed, people were chased from the schools and universities, and property was seized. Hundreds of thousands had to flee for their lives to neighboring countries. Bishop Alexis and his family fled on foot to Burundi, but returned after few years. His tribe were not allowed to receive higher education so Alexis went to Burundi again to attend High School.
Alexis was 'born again' in 1977. He attended St.Paul's Theological College in Kenya and was ordained in 1986. Alexis' gifts of evangelism, organization, and vision were soon recognized. Eventually was made a "Missionary Bishop" and sent with two lay evangelists to organize a new Diocese in the Cyangugu in the far southwestern corner of Rwanda.
When the great Genocide began in April of 1994 Alexis again had to flee for his life. This time with a wife and children. He only survived by a wonderful series of miracles. You can read about this in the book "Rescued by Angels". Immediately afer the Genocide he returned to Rwanda and took a brief leave from the Church to begin an organization to care for thousands of children made orphans by the war. The Barakabaho (Let Them Live) Foundation still cares for many thousands.
In 1997 Bishop Alexis was again sent to organize a new Anglican Diocese, this time in the far eastern, war ravaged province of Gahini. Gahini had been the scene of tremenous revival until the persecutions of the 1960's. The great East Africa Revival had begun on a small, pioneer, Anglican mission station and spread to affect every denomination and nation in East Africa. The embers of Revival were still smoldering in Gahini in spite of the times. Bishop Alexis was determined to see reconciliation between the tribes and revival in the Churches.
Since he arrived in Gahini in 1997 the number of congregations has more than doubled to number more than 220 churches under his oversight. It was from these churches that God provided the first eighteen volunteer missionary/evangelists to confont the rising tide of Islamic 'evangelism' in Tanzania last year.
Though he is an Anglican bishop Alexis understands that Revival knows no denominational boundaries and he is very eager to work with believers of every Evangelical persuasion to see God move in East Africa.
